In Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced a series of amendments to the regulations "on the sale and use of communication devices".
The changes apply to dealers, distributors as well as phone operators.
As of August 22, a contract signed between the operator and the buyer shall include one passport size picture and the copy of identification. This amendment in particular will prevent individuals from purchasing sim cards for others.
From now on, customer information will be sent and registered by the Data Processing Center at the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies. The sim cards will be operational within 24 hours.
Another amendment includes a ban on lending one’s sim card to another person for a long term or renting the card out.
Also in case of a loss or robbery, the user will have to inform the Ministry of Interior.
