People who used to once trade in "Torgovaya" (also on the Fountain Square) relocated here [following renovation works on the Fountain Square]
Because the end of the market is actual rubbish dump not many people come this way. That is why often traders try finding spots closer to the center. Because this is not most popular location, a spot here costs only 1AZN (1.27USD/1.02EUR).
"I used to work at the shoe factory near Boyuk Sor during the Soviet Union until 1994. That factory used to meet the needs of the shoe market in Baku and across many other regions in Azerbaijan. Then the factory stopped operating. We turned to Turkey for foreing goods. My last address was this market where I sell shoes and knick-knacks".
The market often called "Cure for the poor" and "scrap and rag market"
This man used to have a stall atthe Fountain Square before it underwent massive renovation. He sold antique and even had friends among the expat community and foreign visitors. He came here when it was no longer allowed to operate at the square. He says he often looks for them in the crowd at this market.
