Today, October 12, Baku Court of Appeal will hold a preliminary hearing on the appeal of Leyla and Arif Yunus following their sentence in August.
The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus to 8 years and 6 months and 7 years respectively on August 13.
The couple was charged with fraud, illegal business, tax evasion, and forgery. The treason charge brought against the couple will be tried in a separate court.
A number of international human rights wathdogs consider the arrest and the sentence political and are calling for the couple's immediate release.
