Azerbaijan and Turkey Discuss New Partnerships

October 5, the two countries inked the Joint Committee on Customs Issues protocol. The protocol was signed during official Turkey delegation visit to Baku.

The visit came shortly after, Turkey’s Minister of Customs and Traid, Cenap Asci statement that both countries should work to increase the foreign trade volume between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“The protocol includes the obligations of the customs bodies of the two countries in connection with the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. It is also planned to exchange information on customs checks, cooperation in the field of risk management, and other issues”, said Aydin Aliyev, the head of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee and the signatory from the Azerbaijan side.

Cenap Asci, Aliyev’s counterpart on Turkey side said, “With this protocol, the customs ministers of Turkey and Azerbaijan would come together twice a year. The trade volume between Turkey and Azerbaijan is not satisfying. We need to increase our visits to increase the trade volume with more energy and transportation projects”.

Previous major strategic partnerships include the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Crude Oil Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas Pipeline, and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Project.
