Amal Clooney on the Hill
According to the story in Washington Post, Clooney and congressman Rep. Jim McGovern spoke for nearly 40 minutes about how to increase momentum in the call for Ismayilova's release.
“Our world is safer when journalists have the freedom to expose corruption and hold the powerful accountable,” McGovern said, according to an emailed statement, “and that is exactly what Khadija Ismayilova did in Azerbaijan. I am proud to join Amal Clooney in the push to free Khadija and urge the White House and every member of Congress to join me in this effort.”

Senator Ben Cardin shares his impressions from the meeting with Amal Clooney
I had a very productive conversation with #AmalClooney and am impressed by her passion for and dedication to #humanrights. We discussed a wide range of issues, including journalist and political prisoner Khadija #Ismayilova who is currently serving a seven year sentence in #Azerbaijan on trumped up charges, as well as my legislation, the Global #Magnitsky Act, which would promote and uphold human rights around the world.
