Postponed hearing in Azerbaijan, an award for extraordinary activism in Geneva- life of Khadija Ismayil
On November 19, the court of appeal in Baku rescheduled the hearing on the appeal of journalist Khadija ismayil.
Earlier, judge Ilgar Murguzov postponed the hearing after following informing the journalist she had the right to appeal within a month of the ruling. Ismayil was sentenced to 7.5 years on charges of misappropriation and embezzlement, illegal entrepreneurship, tax evasion, and abuse of power.
Ismayil who considers charges bogus filed an appeal against the verdict. The next hearing is scheduled to take place on November 25.
But while the judge in Baku court was busy postponing Khadija’s hearing, Human Rights Watch honored Khadija with the prestigious Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism in Geneva.
