BAKU, January 29, 2013 (RFE/RL) - Another veteran of the Karabakh war in Azerbaijan burned himself in protest.
44 yearls old Maarif Valiyev has poured gasoline on his body and lit himself on fire in front of the local administration building in the village of Alpout in central Barda district on Tuesday.
The chairman of the Karabakh War Veterans' Union, Etimad Asadov, told RFE/RL on Wednesday that Valiyev decided to perform the act of self-immolation to protest local authorities' refusal to provide him with a land-lot to build a house for his family.
Valiyev is currently in a local hospital. Asadov says nobody is allowed to visit him. Last month, the death of a Karabakh war veteran after self-immolation act protesting perceived injustices at the hands of a senior pro-government official, caused protests in Baku.
