July 14, Human Rights House Foundation (HRHF) released a letter signed by 95 lawyers from 24 countries calling for the immediate and unconditional release of human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev.

The letter addressed to the President Ilham Aliyev called upon him “to release Intigam Aliyev and rehabilitate his civil and political rights" and provide Aliyev with complete and necessary medical treatment.

The signatories of the letter, which include independent lawyers, barristers, and attorney-at-law called for a fair trial especially since his lawyer proved his innocence. “Intigam Aliyev’s attorney managed to prove that whilst Intigam Aliyev was charged in relations to the implementation of 13 projects without registration of grant contracts, 7 of them had in fact been implemented before 2009, at a time when the law did not demand any registration. The remaining 6 grant contracts were implemented after the due registration at the Ministry of Justice.”

Intigam Aliyev was arrested August 8, 2014. The Baku Court of Grave Crimes found him guilty on April 22, 2015 of tax evasion, abuse of authority, illegal enterpreneurship, and appropriation.
