According to Gunay Ismayilova, lawyer from the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) the General Prosecutor office announced on December 12, that Jafarov is facing additional charges. The new charges include article 313 (fraud) and 179.3.2 (embezzlement) of the Criminal Code.
“Just as the previous charges, the new ones are fake and absurd as well. Rasul Jafarov never had a position [where he could committee fraud]” said the laywer.
The Grave Crimes Investigative Union of the General Prosecutor office arrested Jafarov on August 2. He was charged with illegal entrepreneurship, power abuse, tax evasion and sentenced to three months in pre-trial detention. On October 23, his sentence was extended to an additional three months.
